The Feistritz Valley Railway (Weiz – Anger – Birkfeld) is one of the few railroad lines on which you can still experience vintage rides like in the old days. The snorting steam locomotive is attached to old passenger carriages (with wooden benches!) that date back to the early days of the railroad. Without haste and hurry, you travel over many bridges and viaducts and through several tunnels through a dreamlike landscape. The smoking and loudly whistling steam locomotive gives everyone the feeling that they are taking an interesting journey through the beautiful Feistritz Valley with the emperor himself.

The Almenland is located in the heart of green Styria. It stretches extensively around the Teichalm and Sommeralm and is therefore the largest contiguous alpine pasture area in Europe. The region lies at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level. The highest peaks are at 1,720 meters. The Almenland is a central starting point for numerous hikes, for example through the Bärenschützklamm gorge, to the Rote Wand and Schüsserlbrunn. There are also several stalactite caves nearby, such as the Katerloch, the Grasslhöhle and the Lurgrotte. Those who don’t want to hike far can visit the moor nature trail or go pedal boating on the Teichalmsee.

Herberstein Castle
Mysteriously hidden in the wild and romantic landscape of the Feistritzklamm gorge lies one of Austria’s most famous castles – Herberstein Castle.
